My Vocalist story:
I haven’t done a ton of singing, but I have done a bit. As a kid I was in a few children’s choirs at church and such, but I’m not entirely sure that counts. I uploaded a video of myself singing “Part Of Your World” from Little Mermaid on YouTube, which I think has less than 100 views. When I was like fifteen I had the lead role in a play that required me to do that majority of the singing in the show, which apparently I did well. I sing around the house and I belt out songs in my car, but I’m not confident enough in the quality of my voice to do much else.

My Songwriting badge:
I’ve done songwriting in two different senses, and in both I wasn’t very good. I took a class when I was a lot younger in composition, so I’ve done some musical songwriting. When I was maybe thirteen I decided I was going to write some lyrics, which I still have somewhere on my hard drive. They’re bloody awful, not even going to lie. I’m crap with poetry, which is an art form I really don’t appreciate, and that seems to translate into lyrical songwriting as well. I don’t mind reading poetry and song lyrics and such, but apparently I can’t write them at all.

My Flute story:
I can barely remember a time when I wasn’t playing flute. I took recorder first, and I started on the flute when I was maybe ten or so. Originally I took lessons from a former band teacher, which taught me some really bad habits, but I ended up switching to the crotchety old woman I was mildly terrified of who taught me how to play flute the way I do now. Honestly, she was probably the best teacher I ever had for the flute, even though she was also the grumpiest person I have ever met in my life. Later on, once I was better at the flute in general, I managed to talk my dad into buying me a ridiculous amount of songbooks for stuff I loved, which is pretty much all I ever play on the flute. I have the sheet music for all three High School Musical films, Hannah Montana, Wicked, Phantom Of The Opera, Les Miserables, Disney Films, and probably some other stuff I’m forgetting. I stopped playing consistently when I started college back in 2009, but I still have all my sheet music and my flute, which I do intend to pick back up in the future.

My Piano story:
So, like almost every other kid, I had to take piano lessons when I was little. I can’t say I was ever properly good at it, but I learned how to read music and identify notes from piano, so it wasn’t useless. I haven’t legitimately played in years, so the only real thing I can still play that sounds good on the piano is Angel Of Music from Phantom Of The Opera. Unlike my brother, who doesn’t even play piano and can sit down at the keys and play some random composition that sounds like a masterpiece. He can also play whatever movie music he wants just by dinkering a little until he figures out which notes are involved. Odds are that when he sits down to the keys, it’s only a matter of time until “Win One For The Reaper” from LOST starts flowing out of our piano.

Yeah, so the majority of my film reactions continued to alternate between being excited about Robert Carlyle and being irritated at how the storyline was translated to the screen.
Also, for the credits song - Keep Holding On by Avril Lavigne? Seriously?!
I’d really love to see your thoughts on this! x
This is a great interview. Really interesting read!
